Free City Tours

When I was in Berlin a couple of months back I accidentally stumbled across some dude giving a very enthusiastic description of the fall of the Berlin wall and the events leading up to it in 1989. He was standing in front of the old museum and quite a crowd had gathered on the stairs in front of him.

After he finished his story, it turned out that this was just the last station of a free city tour the dude has been giving. These tours are organized within the framework of a organization called Sandemans New Europe. Since the only income the tour guides have are tips left by appreciative tourists, they are extremely enthusiastic in their tellings.

Thus, if you’re in Paris, London, Berlin, Munich or Amsterdam, and see a enthusiastic talking person in a red t-shirt, check if he/she is one those tour-guides … and if so, follow by all means. It’s definitely worth it!
